Scary-happy

5:44 p.m. Today's project was to do something the Lord asked me to do that was a bit scary, but it was evident that He had arranged every part of the lead-up to my doing it!

I was proofreading my I Samuel Chapter 10 introductory remarks in the lesson the ladies will receive tomorrow when I considered verses 9 and 10. The prophet Samuel had anointed Saul to be King of Israel, and spoke of several signs that would take place that day to confirm God's calling for the timid Saul. "So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day. When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him [Saul] and he prophesied among them." This was out of character for Saul, a total work of the Holy Spirit, coming upon him and enabling him to be the spiritual and military leader of God's people.

God still has a work of the Spirit to do in each of our lives. Many times we, like Saul, are nervous and timid about witnessing for Christ to unbelievers, or taking a strong stand for the truth of God's Word. We were indwelt by the Holy Ghost when we became born again, but may not have recently, or ever, been filled with the dunamis, explosive power of the Spirit for anointing and boldness in service.

This is the power that Jesus spoke of to His disciples after His resurrection in Acts 1:8:

You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

The disciples received the Holy Spirit's power after Jesus ascended to heaven, and indeed, their testimony did go throughout the earth!

Saul was filled with the Spirit and publicly proclaimed king. Scripture says in I Samuel 10:23 "He stood head and shoulders above anyone else."

God showed me it was time to stand tall as well! I made a phone call to an old friend He brought back into my life just two days ago, and she'll be joining us at the Harvest Crusade!!

Be filled with the Spirit--yours for the asking, Jesus said in Luke 11:13--and stand for Him today!!
